Hummingbirds are gorgeous creatures, so delicate and vibrant, a mix of fragility and speed, a lovely symbol of hope. The Hummingbird Wrap features both the image of a hummingbird, but also the feel of it through the delicate “wings” framing the centre.

The main body of the wrap is creating through tapestry crochet, so both the front and back of the wrap look very similar. After the main body is done, the side wings are crocheted.

This pattern uses only basic stitches, however, assumes knowledge of crochet colourwork - how to carry multiple yarns and switch between colours. The pattern requires concentration as no 2 rows are the same in the hummingbird section.

Yardage: 2 x 100g (350-400m) skeins of fingering weight yarn, 1 in each colour. Good contrast between the colours is important.

The sample used hand-dyed 80/20 Merino Nylon yarn. Post block size was 62” (157 cm) along top row and 32” (82 cm) depth from point to top row.
