◆This colorful Jagae pouch is inspired by najeonchilgi, a traditional Korean craft.
Najeonchilgi is made by skilled artists and is so beautiful that it often takes people’s breath away.
This pouch shows that same shining beauty through knitting.
Let’s build your own special piece, one stitch and one row at a time.

English isn’t my first language, so my explanation might not be perfect—sorry about that.
I hope you enjoy your knitting and have fun with the chart!

◆This pouch uses a bottom-up design, starting from the base and working upwards. You will knit in the order of body → drawstring section → bottom.

As shown in the sample below, there are four types of pouches you can make. First, choose the shape you like: Bokjory(traditional Korean pouch shape)
or Cylindrical pouch.

For the Bokjory type, you will sew the bottom when you finish. For the Cylindrical pouch, you will pick up stitches around the bottom and knit in a circle.

Next, choose the color type: Full colorwork pattern or Two-faced knit pattern. The Full colorwork pattern uses circular colorwork. The Two-faced knit pattern uses flat colorwork and flat patterned work, which you will join together at the side. After choosing your options, first make the body. Then knit the drawstring section, the holes for the string, and the top closure.

Finally, make the bottom. You can also add a lining or strap, if you like, depending on your personal taste. Please read the instructions carefully as you work.

1. Suggested Yarns : Fingering to Sport (400~300meters/100g)

2. Yarns (400 meters/100g) :

  • For Bokjory type in Two-faced knit pattern (3.0mm), MC 50g / CC 60g
  • More than 70g/280m (400 meters/100g in Fingering) yarn is recommended.

3. Needles : 2.5~3.0mm knitting needles (For Full colorwork pattern, it is recommended to combine 10cm needles with 20cm cable o r use 40cm circular needles.)

4. Gauge : 35 sts x 45 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch measured in the round on 2.5 mm needles

5. Gauge in colorwork pattern : See the colorwork section on page 4.
