Kristine Cardigan is the brainchild of Kristine Dannenberg, who earned this opportunity to collaborate with Zanete as a prize for completing a challenging task during the La Grace Vest knitalong.

Her goal was to create a practical wardrobe staple transcending the ordinary cardigan. To achieve this, Kristine incorporated unique elements such as a high collar with buttons extending all the way up and using the wrong side of the half brioche stitch on the right side of the cardigan.

Adding to the creative process, she suggested using 3 strands of laceweight yarn held together, allowing knitters to experiment with marling and create uniquely coloured fabric.
And here is the result! This pattern is for a top-down, seamless, drop-shoulder cardigan that exudes timeless elegance with a trendy twist. Embrace style and ease with this delightful addition to your wardrobe!

Yarn: 3 strands of lace weight held together. Depending on the length of the cardigan, allow approximately (of each):

  • 1210 (1500, 1650, 1750, 1900, 2050, 2190, 2400) m
  • 1320 (1640, 1800, 1910, 2070, 2240, 2390, 2630) yds

Gauge: 20 sts & 42 rows = 10 cm / 4″ in Half-brioche/Half Fisherman’s rib stitch in the round and flat, on larger needles after blocking.

Suggested needles:

  • 3.25 mm (US 3) circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long or size that gets the required gauge
  • 2.75 mm (US 2) circulars 60-100 cm / 24-40″ long or two sizes smaller than larger needles

Notions: Stitch markers including at least locking markers, row counter, scissors, tape measure, stitch holders or waste yarn, tapestry needle, 6 or 7 buttons 18-20 mm / ¾” in diameter.

Techniques used: Short rows, brioche including increases and decreases, backwards loop cast-on, tubular bind-off.

Notes: The cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down. Back stitches are cast on, and the shoulders are shaped using short rows and then worked straight down to underarms. Stitches for each front shoulder are picked up along the back shoulders and worked separately with increases shaping the front neckline down to the underarm. Back and front are joined together and continued straight in one piece down to full length. Stitches for sleeves are picked up along the armholes and worked in the round with decreases down to wrists. Stitches for the collar are picked up along the neckline and worked flat to the desired length. 1x1 twisted rib button bands with one-row buttonholes are added on last.
