Lightweight Bag Set. Instant digital download.
Pattern includes 2 variations of the Market bag (Regular and Stretchy) in 3 different sizes with soft, squishy handles and 2 different truly lightweight produce bags.

I love my tiny star produce bags but they don’t work so well for things like grapes, snow peas or even carrots. So, I needed something with smaller holes but still lightweight (who wants to pay more than they have to just because they’re going plastic free!) and I still wanted to crochet it (because I love crochet of course).

Enter the lightweight produce bag.
Crocheted? Check
Small holes? Check
Light weight? Definitely check

This little beauty weighs only 20g with the closing string and bead and the larger size (with bigger holes) weighs even less at only 12g!

And… while I was at it I created a market bag in 2 styles (Regular and Stretchy) and 3 sizes, so everyone can match whilst shopping - including Mr Teddy Bear! Plus these bags have soft squishy handles that don’t hurt your hands and they use less than 50g of yarn. Winner!

Market and produce bags are the perfect meditative, quick, satisfying, watching Netflix make that will continue to make you feel good every time you get them out and use them. They also make wonderful gifts - you could even fill them with some wonderful ingredients for a friend who loves cooking or with with homemade cookies for that special someone with a sweet tooth.

Level: Easy/Intermediate
The pattern uses a variety of techniques, including working in the front loop and joining with a stitch - though tutorial links and heaps of photos make it accessible for confident beginners.

Yarn: 20-120 meters (5-35g) of 4ply (fingering) or 120 metres (50g) of 8ply (DK) cotton yarn depending on which bag you make. I’ve used Bendigo Woollen Mills cotton for the bags pictured above.
Cotton is recommended for this type of item but you can use any brand cotton.
You can use a different weight yarn with an appropriate hook but the finished size will vary. Some of my testers used Scheepjes Catona and Lily Sugar n’ Cream just to give you an idea.
