Linen Leaf is a small two-skein shawl worked from the center of top (wingspan) down, which makes it easily adjustable. Extra stitches at each row end gives this shawl a lovely and comfy boomerang shape.

The base stitch pattern, linen (moss) stitch, is modified in an unusual way to create wonderfully textured ridges with a touch of colorwork to blend both colors together.

The pattern includes the written instructions, charts and a detailed photo tutorial on the new stitches used: how and where to work them.

MATERIALS

  • Malabrigo Sock; light fingering / 3 ply; 440 yd (402 m) per 100 g skein; 100% merino wool
  • Hook: U.S. E (3.5 mm)
  • Yarn needle to weave in ends
  • Stitch markers

YARDAGE

  • 1 skein each in shades 037 Lettuce and 346 Fiona colorways

GAUGE FOR SWATCH

  • 24 sts and 24 rows = 4″ (10 cm) worked in linen st patt only. An exact gauge is not crucial for this design.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

  1. Wingspan: 60″ / 152 cm
  2. Actual width of each wing: 30″ / 76 cm
  3. Depth: 17″ / 43 cm

The shawl is designed as a perfect two-skein project. However, the measurements listed above are only guidelines and you can make this shawl larger by working more rows in either the body or edging section – or both. Bear in mind that in this case, your yardage requirements and finished dimensions will change.
