The Mabrey Hat was inspired by the Mabrey Sweater!

I love the simplicity of this original color-chart so much I have decided to make a whole collection inspired by it. Mabrey Hat is very simple and can be made in different colors to suit your wardrobe. It does not take up a lot of yarn and is perfect for mini skeins or stash diving.

Pattern Construction: This hat begins by knitting the brim in 1x1 ribbing using a worsted-spun DK weight yarn. The ribbing is long enough to be folded. This adds to its fit and warmth. Stockinette and stranded color-work are then worked in the hat body. After the color-work chart is worked and hat body height is achieved, the crown shaping begins. The hat end is then grafted together to give it a flawless final touch. You can make a pompom to add to the top if you wish.

Difficulty Level: Adventurous Beginner
Skills Needed: Long-tail Cast On, knitting and purling in the round, basic decreases, stranded color-work, working from a chart and Kitchener Stitch.

Materials:
DK weight to Light Worsted weight yarn

Sample shown in:
For Brim & Body: Modus Operandi Fibers, Rustic DK, 100% non-superwash Peruvian highland wool. 4 ply DK weight. 246 yards/225 meters, 100 grams. 1 (1, 1, 1, 1) skein
Main Color ways shown: Olive
&
For Color-Work in body: Modus Operandi Fibers,100% superwash merino wool. 4 ply worsted weight. 218 yards/200 meters, 100 grams. 1 (1, 1, 1, 1) skein each OR mini skeins of approx. 30 yards/28 meters each color way.
Contrast Color ways shown: Evergreen

Below is list of a few alternatives to Rustic DK. This DK is definitely a thicker, flufflier DK. For superwash wool, I’d recommend worsted weight over DK. (The best matches for fiber feel, yardage and weight is Harrisville Designs Nightshades and Daylights, and Cascade Yarns Eco Merino)
