Madeira Way began as vacation knitting for my annual visit with my aunt and uncle in Florida. The mindless garter stripes were the perfect companion. I brought my knitting everywhere with us and they watched in awe as my shawl grew. My aunt and I spent many hours on their balcony and by the pool knitting together and enjoying each other’s company. We often saw trees and bushes with colors that matched my shawl. Madeira Way has become a souvenir for this trip as the colors and floral lace will always remind me of the time shared with my family.

Madeira Way is an asymmetrical triangle shawl featuring garter stripes and a floral lace pattern. A picot bind-off completes the shawl. While the lace is not particularly difficult, it does require attention. I think this shawl is the perfect combination of mindless and challenging knitting.
