I’ve always been captivated by malachite. There’s something completely entrancing about those rich bands of green.

The Malachite Lace Shawl was designed to feature the distinct beauty of the hand-painted Fleurville yarn by The Yarn Collective, bringing the complex, saturated tone to center stage. Contrasting stripes in two colors mimic the light and dark layers of stone.

The shawl begins with a garter tab at the center top. Then, four increases every right-side row create the triangle shape. Bands of stockinette stitch, contrast garter ridges, and simple lace alternate through the body of the shawl. The same lace motif is carried through the deep lace border in the contrast color.

Suggested Yarn:

• The Yarn Collective Fleurville 4 Ply (100% superwash merino, 382 yd. (350 m)/100 g (3.5 oz); 3 skeins in colorway #608 Stem

• The Yarn Collective Fleurville 4 Ply (100% superwash merino, 382 yd. (350 m)/100 g (3.5 oz); 1 skein in colorway #604 Rose

OR approximately 1,093 yd. (1,000 m/250g (8.8 oz) of fingering weight yarn in Main Color and 382 yd. (350 m)/100g (3.5 oz) of fingering weight yarn in Contrast Color.

Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm), 60-inch (150 cm) circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. A long circular needle is recommended in order to accommodate a large number of stitches as the shawl grows.

Notions: Tapestry needle, two stitch markers, blocking pins or wires.

Gauge: 20 sts and 32 rows to 4’’ (10 cm) in stockinette stitch on US 5 (3.75 mm) needles after blocking.

Finished Measurements:
Wingspan: 83 in. (210 cm). Depth: 37 in. (95 cm)

Techniques: Triangle shawl shaping, garter tab, easy lace, invisible increases.

Note: The lace stitch pattern is written and charted.
