’The definition of menagerie is an odd or eclectic assortment of things.’
“Menagerie” is a hexagon that is a mash-up of my “Melangè” and “Marmalade” Squares. The centers are inspired by my “Marmalade” Squares and the hexagon border is inspired by my “Melangè” Squares.

They work up quickly and it’s enjoyable to see the colors work up. ❤

“Menagerie” Hexagons.
Here are some details of how I put my blanket together:

I joined my hexagons with a tight join using SC. Yarn used to join them is Lion Brand Cotton Ease In Moonstone. Size J hook.
Link to tight join tutorial: https://www.gathered.how/knitting-and-crochet/crochet/how...

I then “straightened out the top and bottom by making a decrease in the “valley” where the hexagons were joined. I also used taller stitches in the valleys.

I then went around the blanket making 4 rounds of Moss/Linen stitch, making SC, chain 2, SC for the corners. The 1st and 4th round in the Moonstone and the 2nd and 3rd rounds in two different accent colors.

The next round working only in the chain 1 spaces, DC in chain 1 space. Chain 1. Skip next stitch. All around, making DC, chain 3, DC in the chain 2 corners.

Another round of Moss/Linen stitch in the Moonstone. SC, chain 3, SC was made for the corners.

Another round of Moss/Linen stitch was made using a contrasting color.

Upon this base of border the I did the following Rick Rack Border.

“RICK RACK BORDER”.
Working on a foundation of Moss/Linen Stitch. Its SS, DC, SS worked in chain 1 space. Skip next stitch. SS in next chain 1 space. SS in next stitch. SS, DC, SS in next chain 1 space. Continue all around, making 2 SS, DC, 2 SS in EACH CORNER.
SS = Slip Stitch.
