ABOUT
A perfect year-round piece, the oversized Misty Valley Tee is a bold, statement top crocheted with contrasting stripes and wavy puff stitch ripples. The pattern name is inspired by the undulating rows of peaks and valleys created from alternating sections of increases and decreases. The superwash yarn used in this design brings maximum stitch definition for a clean, bold fabric, and the side seams combined with the method of carrying the main color up the side of your work will prevent it from stretching out over time while also eliminating the number of ends to be woven in.

MATERIALS
Yarn: Sport/light DK—Lion Brand Superwash Merino in Antique (Main Color), Mustard Seed, Olive Branch, and Hemp

  • 100% Extra Fine Merino Wool
  • 306 yds (280 m) per 3.5 oz (100 g) skein
  • Find this yarn on lionbrand.com or visit yarnsub.com to find comparable substitutes

Yardage Required - Main Color (MC):
3 (3, 4, 5) skeins MC for sizes 1 (2, 3, 4), or 750 (875, 1150, 1475) yds / 686 (800, 1052, 1349) m

Yardage Required - Accent Colors (AC):
1 (1, 2, 2) skein(s) each of 3 different accent colors for sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) or 175 (250, 400, 575) yds / 160 (229, 366, 526) m

If substituting Lion Brand Superwash Merino, choose any similar category #3, light, DK weight yarn or category #2, sport weight yarn that matches gauge. Note that this yarn is labeled a category #3, light weight yarn but you will likely be able to match gauge with many category #2, sport weight yarns as well. Always swatch before beginning to ensure you are happy with the resulting fabric.

PATTERN NOTES
Skill Level: Intermediate

Sizing: This top is written in four hybrid sizes as follows: 1 (2, 3, 4) which correspond to sizes XXXS/XXS (XS/S/M, L/XL/2X, 3X/4X/5X). Make sure to follow the numbers for your size only.

  • View full sizing chart on page 5
  • An “x” indicates that particular instruction does not apply to your size.

Stitch Counts: Stitch counts are listed after each row in italics. If no stitch count is given, there has been no change since the previous row. If only one number is provided, it applies to all sizes.
Turning Chain: The turning chain does not count as a stitch except when working the puff stitch rows. You will chain 2, skip the first st, and dc into the second stitch. This counts as one dc2tog.
Right Side: The right side (RS) is the side facing you when working the single crochet rows since the puff stitches are more prominent on this side of the fabric.
Construction: The body is worked in two panels that get seamed together at the shoulders and along the sides, leaving an opening for the sleeves which are worked later. A bottom hem and neckline ribbing are worked onto the raw edges to create a more polished look.
Adjusting Length: To adjust the length, simply continue crocheting the body to your desired length before splitting for the left and right shoulders.
Color Changes: You will be alternating stripes between the main color and four accent colors. Each of your accent colors will be fastened off after the stripe is completed, but the main color will not be fastened off, it will be carried up the side of your work and picked back up for the next main color section.

Work 2 rows of each color: one single crochet row and one puff stitch row.

Follow this order:

  • Accent Color 1 (shown as Mushroom)

  • Main Color

  • Accent Color 2 (shown as Olive Branch)

  • Main Color

  • Accent Color 3 (shown as Mustard)
