This sweater is knitted in double moss stitch, from the bottom up in separate pieces that are sewn together.
We start with the back piece, then front piece. They are joined by sewing them together at the shoulders. Then the sleeve stitches are picked up and knitted directly from the armhole edges.
A garter stitch border is worked along the edges to make it easier to sew the seams and pick up sts.

The pdf tutorial has lots of photos and step by step instructions to help you through your project.
