Napa is the knit pair of pants I’ve always dreamed of. I’ve wanted a pair of hand knit pants for years and after finding the perfect yarn for it, here they are! Made for movement and flow this drop-crotched pant is amazing for wearing around the house but also transition from day to night very easily because of it’s luxurious fabric and modern cut. Napa can be paired beautifully with your favourite crop top or a killer leather jacket. A great basic that can be made as edgy as you want to take it. Turn it up to 11 or keep it simple, it’s up to you.

About the piece:

With a built-in waist band for waist-shaping and simple sizing, Napa is the dream pair of luxurious yet comfortable pants. With all the components being very adjustable you can create the perfect pair of pants to suit your personal style. Made out of 100% silk these pants offer drape and comfort while a simple line of purls down the front and back give draw the eye vertically to create a longer figure. The model has a 28” inch waist is 5’5” and is wearing the size 6.

Yarn:

Yardage:
size 0, 6, 12: 1750 yards
size 18, 22, 26, 30: 2625 yards

MC: “Memory of a Dark Tale” Tussah Silk Fingering, Dye for Yarn, 100% Silk, (875 yards, 200 grams)

When choosing a yarn for Napa, if you are looking for a similar effect to the sample pant, look for one that has a lot of drape, without too much memory. I would recommend a yarn with some silk, alpaca or linen that is more flowing in nature, a single ply yarn is also preferable, though due to the simplicity of the pant, the world is your oyster.

Note: the yarn is in 200gram put ups, yardage approximations are based on this size skein and may vary.

Needles and Notions:

You will need to purchase an elastic waistband, for mine, I used a 4”/10cm wide option and used 1 yard/meter. I would recommend buying the option you prefer and measuring yourself around the waist before purchasing. To size the waist band, place it around your torso at the height you are going to wear it and pin it to the size of your waist without ease in either direction. Next, and this step is key before cutting, try stepping in and out of the elastic with it at this size, if it needs to be bigger, now’s the time to do it. Sew the elastic to this size being sure not to twist, this can be sewn by hand or with a machine, it doesn’t have to be pretty, it will be well hidden.

Gauge:

Using 3,25mm in Stockinette Stitch with MC: 23 sts x 32 rounds.

These pants will grow dramatically lengthwise, I am giving you the pre washed gauge, as the length will change dramatically. I knit my pants approx. 8” shorter than they turned out once washed, this is the nature of silk, if you are using a yarn with less silk you will have to knit more leg and this may change yarn quatities.
