I wanted a hat where the ears were standing upright. As a long-time cat owner, I can tell you that when my cats are in their aggressive and confident poses, their ears are very upright. This hat will produce those ears on your head!

This is a garter stitch hat with a rolled stockinette brim. It is made in one rectangle, and seamed up the sides. When you put this rectangular garment on your rounded head, the ears are miraculously created!

My original hats are for my rather small head. If you wish to make a larger hat, you will need more than one skein of Mecha, but should be able to squeak a larger hat out of one skein of Arranmore. Garter is a very stretchy fabric, and should be able to fit a variety of head sizes.

Feel free to get creative--maybe you can embroider eyes and a nose? Or use whatever colors you like to create the eared animal of your choice.
