This ponytail hat uses slipped stitches to create the color pattern, and if you are not already a fan of slip stitch knitting, you will be after making this hat! Slipping some of the stitches allows a color from the row before to appear in the row you are working.  This means you are only actually using with one color to work across any given row. It looks intricate, but knits up so fast.

The hat’s button band, which is worked right along with the hat (no seams, no picking up stitches) allows you to wear a ponytail high, low, or in the middle. Great for any outdoor activity, but with enough style to wear around town.

This hat makes a great gift, but you’ll probably want to keep it for yourself!

Difficulty:  Beginner

Skills:  Knit, purl, yarn over (yarn forward), slip stitch, k2tog.  You don’t need to have used slip stitches before in order to make this hat.

Yarn selection:  The sample is made with a solid + a color-changing yarn, but this also looks great with two contrasting solids.   Perfect for school or sports team colors!
