Named for the genus that produces such familiar vining plants as Virginia Creeper, Boston Ivy and Grape Woodbine, this warm winter hat is a great compliment to the cowl, leg warmers and fingerless gloves/mitts of the same name.

Two size options are given in the pattern: choose from a long toque with deep ribbing and classic conical top, or the shorter beanie with shallow ribbing and a close fitted crown. The 2x2 cabled ribbing is super stretchy, expanding and contracting to fit a wide range of heads from school aged children to adults with large noggins.

Gauge given is for the ribbing in its relaxed state, with only the knit stitches showing. The finished result will look narrow compared to its actual fit.

  • knit in the round at a small circumference, using the needles and techniques you prefer in the size you need to make gauge
  • recommend 1 stitch marker to mark the start/end of rounds, and one cable needle

A great gift knit, requiring only a single skein of worsted weight yarn. Aran or DK weight yarn may be substituted, with appropriate needle adjustment to make gauge. Changing the weight of the yarn used will affect yardage required.
