I have left my doll’s face fairly simple, but you can add a nose, mouth, or a little blush to her cheeks to personalise your mermaid.

This pattern includes knitting bobbles for the thumbs, and instructions are included in the pattern.

ABOUT THE PATTERN: The pattern has row numbers for each step so you don’t lose your place, instructions for making the mermaid, photos, a list of abbreviations and a materials list. The pattern is 5 pages and written in English.

TECHNIQUES: All pieces are knitted flat (back and forth) on a pair of straight knitting needles. You need to know how to knit, purl, increase and decrease, change colour at the end of a row and do some seaming.

  • A pair of straight 4.5mm knitting needles (US 7)
  • Aran weight (worsted, 10 ply) acrylic yarn; less than 50g in each colour
  • Toy filling
  • A stitch holder
  • Small black buttons for eyes
