Arr! Shiver me timbers, raise the Jolly Roger and yo-ho-ho! It’s Pirate Captain Octopus, the cuddliest octopus in the seven seas.

For this toy, some pieces are knitted in the round to minimise seaming. For the octopus and hat, work in the round using a circular needle and magic loop or knit on a set of DPNs if you prefer. The eye patch is worked flat (back and forth) on a pair of single pointed needles. Designed by Amanda Berry @fluffandfuzz, the octopus is knitted in acrylic DK yarns.

NEEDLES
A set of 3.5mm DPNs or circular needle, and a pair of 3.5mm single pointed knitting needles (US 4).

RECOMMENDED YARN
Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK; double knitting/light worsted weight; 100% acrylic; less than a 100g/280m skein in each colour.

NOTIONS
Tapestry needle, toy filling, a toy safety eye, skull button to decorate the hat, stitch marker, and ruler or tape measure.

SIZES
One size only - 28cm tall (including hat with legs pointing downwards).

TECHNIQUES
For confident beginners and above, other techniques used include casting on and off, knits, purls, increases and decreases, and a little seaming to finish.
