Pointy DK
This pattern is seeing the light of day because a Ravelry friend visited my Etsy shop and saw a hat that he liked.
I’d never considered releasing this design as a pattern. When I started crocheting hats, I was trying a lot of things and making a lot of mistakes.
This hat was one of the mistakes: When I made a beret, I stacked all of the increases and decreases. And I didn’t work any plain rounds between the decreases and increases. As a result, instead of a nice circle, I got a dodecagon with 12 points that refused to block out.
I’ll admit it now (since my friend’s pointed it out to me): The charm of this beanie/small beret lies in its pointy-edged crown. The matching or contrasting crocheted tie can attach a button (one that has big holes) or create a whimsical topknot.
It’s worked from the top down in joined rounds.
