Polar Nights is the third in my series of “button landscape” hats that use simple stitches to create a themed setting to display your favorite buttons.

The first two, Highway Hat & A River Runs Through It, show green, sunny landscapes perfect for animal, plant, sports, and vehicle buttons.

The Polar Nights Hat is different. Perversely, the idea came from a long summer when I cooled off by reading about Arctic explorers. In my mind, I saw a chill night sky broken only by the colors of the aurora, and a long bare horizon bordered with snowy ridges of ice.

My buttons include polar bears, penguins, a full moon and rocket ships darting among the stars. But this little world can be yours, populated with any buttons you like, to tell any store you want.

It’s an easy knit, and at 19.5” circumference will fit the heads of children aged 4 and up. It’s knit in worsted weight with small amounts of three colors -- good for using leftovers from other projects!
