You need:
Aran (8 wpi; 10 ply; no 4: Medium) weight yarn 300-1185 grams or 490-1940 yards + 30-50 g or 50-85 yards for the headband
Knitting needles US 8 (5 mm) or to obtain gauge 4” x 4” = 18 sts x 24 rows (in stockinette stitch)
Cable needle, tapestry needle, a removable marker
3 big buttons (about 1” or 2-3 cm in diameter)

Knitting stitches used for the poncho:
K- knit
P - purl
Cable - front and back

Knitting stitches used for the headband:
K – knit
P –purl
K2tog – knit two stitches together
P2tog – purl two stitches together
K3tog –knit three stitches together
M1 – make one knit stitch
M1P - make one purl stitch
Yo – yarn over
Sl – slip with yarn held at back
Cable - front and back
