This crochet pattern will instruct you to how to make the “Preemie Santa Hat” This pattern has 3 different hat sizes one for 1-2lb, 2-3lb and 3-5lbs. Great for little ones still in the NICU around Christmas!

THIS IS FOR PATTERN ONLY NOT A FINISHED PRODUCT!!!!

Materials:
• 5mm (H) hook
• Worsted weight yarn. I used Red Heart Super Saver in red, black, white, and gold.
• Yarn needle for sewing.
• Scissors

The skills required to complete this pattern include:
-Basic crochet stitches
-Changing colors

Please note: These hats are for micro preemies and preemies ranging from 22- 34 weeks or baby’s around 1-5 pounds. Depending on the baby the weight/gestations on the hats may vary since all baby’s are different. Micro preemies have very sensitive skin so try to use as soft yarn as you can or wash with fabric softener. Do not use wool or yarn that frays. Wool can possibly cause static which can shock baby’s who are still in isolates.

I also recommend if you are making these hats to donate to a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) to call the NICU first and make sure they are accepting any donations and if they have any restrictions. Some NICU’s only take certain colors or are very specific how to wash or bag items before bringing them in the NICU. Any other questions call your local NICU.

I’ve also been told by a few of my testers these hats comes out the perfect size for some baby dolls if your not wanting to make it for a preemie!

This pattern is written in English and uses U.S crochet terminology. This pattern is 3 pages long, you can always contact me if you have any further questions. The pattern is in PDF form. Pattern has been tested by multiple testers! The finished product when using recommended yarn and hooks,

•1-2lb: This hat measures about 3.5 in tall and 3.75 in wide, circumference is 8 inches.

•2-3lb: This hat measures about 4 in tall and 4 ½ in wide, circumference is 9 inches.

•3-5lbs This hat measures about 4 ½ in tall and 5 ½ in wide, circumference is 9 inches.

Yes baby’s are really this small!!! If you do decide to make these to donate to a local NICU THANK YOU from a fellow preemie mom (my son was a 22 weeker) little hats like these mean more to the family’s than you know! Especially around the holidays.
