CONSTRUCTION

Prism is a high-hip A-line tank top with 3-4cm/1-1.5” of positive ease in the bust. The pattern includes 2 default A-line ‘intensity’ options:

  • low (bottom of the top ~5-10 cm/2-4” wider than the bust)
  • medium (~12-20cm/5-8” wider)
  • detailed instructions on how to increase it even further, so you can pick what works best for your shape & taste.

The top has a vertical decorative panel on the front, worked sideways in garter stitch with German short-rows for shaping and to create the print. You can use 1-5 different contrast colors to achieve different effects, including adding triangles of a different color in the middle of the stripes. Photo on the title page shows the default option with stripes in 3 CC’s (as written out in the pattern).
Prism is knit bottom up in a single piece up to the armhole shaping, then back and front panels separately. Continue with blocking the body, seaming the shoulders together and then knitting the decorative panel sideways. In the ed decorate the armholes (optional sleeve caps), hem (optional elongated back) and neckline with either I-cord or several garter ribs.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS
YARN: sport-weight linen (~300-320m/330-350 yds per 100g/3.5oz) in 2-6 colors: 1 main (MC) + 1-5 contrast colors (CC) depending on your preference (see yardages per size in a table in the pattern photos).

The sample was knit out of Linen Assorti ‘Linen 3-ply thread’
Suggested substitutes:
Quince & Co. Sparrow
Karen Oberg ‘Kalinka’
Katia ‘Lino 100%’
BC Garn ‘Lino’
• Some testers substituted for Lana Grossa ‘Linea Pura Solo Lino’ and various cotton yarns – creates a denser fabric with lower drape. Row gauge will be
tighter than linen, so you will have to add extra rows and adjust the decorative panel accordingly.

NEEDLES:

  • Main: 3.5-4mm/US4-6 (or size to get gauge!) circulars on a 60-80cm/24-32” cable;
  • Decorative elements: 3-3.5mm/US2.5-4 (or 1 size smaller than the main) circulars on a 60cm/24” cable.

NOTIONS: waste yarn, crochet hook, stitch markers, row counter (optional), tapestry needle, scissors.

GAUGE (PER 10x10CM/ 4x4” AFTER WET-BLOCKING)

  • Stockinette: 20 stitches by 24 rows - slightly stretch length-wise to dry (without pinning) - on main needles;
  • Garter stitch: 20 stitches by 40 rows - slightly stretch width-wise to dry (without pinning) - smaller needles.
