This is worked all in 1 piece from top down to the brim. It is written for adult sizes but can be adjusted, just stop increases where you need to and begin the main part of the pattern. I used RHBU but any super drapey ww yarn will work. You do want a soft yarn, though. Otherwise it will bulk up quick. I have recently discovered Purl Soho yarns and they have one similar to RHBU but less breakage issues.
