Looking for a new scarf shape with an alternative to ruffles? Join the Rampart KAL and knit this bold scarf that takes full advantage of entrelac’s natural shape to mimic a castle rampart and channel your inner warrior, royalty, or both! Rampart looks great in solids or in color changing yarns, both long and short repeats. It works with any yarn weight from fingering to bulky, and uses 400 yards no matter which you choose. If you want a longer or shorter scarf, or like to play yarn chicken with your stash, Rampart is easily modified. All blocks are worked over 6 stitches in 1x1 rib. For picking up stitches, use my Double Half Stitch Pickup method, photo tutorial included, and see your pickup disappear into the rib to make Rampart truly reversible.

Difficulty/Skill Level:
While some experience with entrelac is helpful, block-by-block diagrams make it possible for new entrelac knitters to follow along too. Entrelac is the knitting equivalent of playing with Legos, just work tiny rectangles and stack them up, with no seaming required. All of the entrelac blocks are similar. Full concentration is needed for setting up Rampart, but once the body is established, you may find that you are working without the pattern. If that’s not your style, a row-by-row check-off chart is included as well.
