Robin Gardiner is the twelfth child and sixth son of Samwise and Rosie (née Cotton) Gamgee. He had one younger brother.

Robin was named for his father’s friend Robin Smallburrow, a sheriff of the Shire who had served Sharkey unwillingly, and came over to the side of Frodo and his companions when they arrived to save the Shire (Sharkey turned out to be Saruman in disguise).

Robin in the Rain is a single breasted, V-neck jacket worked in a slipped stitch pattern in two colours, with contrasting ribbing trim. The textured slipped stitch pattern is extra dense and warm, and worked in rustic wools will keep a child warm and mostly dry during garden rambles on misty, rainy days.

Note that size by month is an estimate of average growth; measure the child for whom you are knitting to ensure an accurate fit, allowing for a bit of positive ease so the garment may be comfortably worn over other clothing.

Slipped stitch motif: 28 sts x 58 rows = 4” on 3.5mm needles
Relaxed ribbing: 32 sts x 40 rows = 4” on 3.25mm needles
