Take a chance on sequence knitting to create a simple and attractive cowl. You’ll start at the lower edge and your cowl will taper to a snug fitting top circumference. Lower edge will be approximately 21” in circumference. Top edge will be approximately 19” in circumference. If you prefer a cowl with a looser fitting top edge, knit the dividing sections without decreasing or knit with a larger gauge.
You may use a single color of yarn, or up to four different colors. Instructions are included for both of those options. There is also an optional finishing border to make your single colored cowl reversible.
Your stitch patterns will be determined by rolling dice. This will result in a cowl that is unique. There are 6 x 6 or 36 possible stitch combinations for each section. Assuming you don’t repeat the same sequence in 2 sections, there are 36 x 35 x 34 x 33 = 1,413,720 possible resulting cowls. You may not knit them all, but I couldn’t stop at just one.

This pattern was written to use with the Mystery 220 (more or less) group in September 2025.
