These blankets are contoured to fit a horse’s back, and are carefully designed so that pattern absorbs the shaping. Knit all of them and your child will have a criss-cross blanket for dressage days, a fur-trimmed blanket for special occasions and a wavy blanket for rides on the beach. We also include the pattern for a plain blanket that you can make in any colour.

If you are making the blanket for a pre-existing saddle, check that the saddle strap is adjustable, since the blanket will add significant width.

We have separate patterns for the horse, rider, saddle & bridle and rugs - check our other Snoo’s Knits listings.

Difficulty: Easy. We will be using more than one colour of yarn, but the jumps between blocks are very short so you can just drop the spare yarn when you’re not using it.

Stitches used: kfb, k2tog, p2tog

You will need:

• Wool, small amounts in your chosen colours. I used Double Knit wool (8-6 ply, “light worsted”.) Tension square: 10cm x 10cm square is 24 stitches across and 32 rows.
• Knitting needles – I used UK size 11 (3.0mm, US size 2.5)
• Tapestry needle
