This pattern uses the overlay mosaic technique, with the instructions being mostly in chart form. If you are unsure how to work mosaic crochet you can find a short tutorial on my Youtube channel.

This pattern is very close to my heart as it was designed for my son and his partner for their first home together.
The mosaic patterns included in this throw are a fusion of their individual heritages of Scotland and the Caribbean and are my interpretation of the colourful carnivals of the West Indies and the celtic knotwork that is found every where in Scotland.
I have used six colours in this blanket, a base colour of white, two bright colours, two muted colours and an outline colour. The two bright colours of mustard and orange are for the five Caribbean carnival sections. The Scottish sections use the softer more muted tones of light blue and light brown and I chose to stick with the Scottish colour theme of light brown for the border as the pattern here is also knots. The last colour of dark grey outlines the bright Caribbean sections and emphasises the knotted border.
I used mainly drops Alaska, but included one colour of drops Nepal as I needed another bright colour for my carnival sections.
The finished size is 113 cms x 146.5 cms (44.5 inches x 57.5 inches) which makes it a great throw for living areas.
This is a gorgeous blanket to make and is a great stepping stone on from your first mosaic project.
Have fun with the Santa Cruz.
