When my daughter Sarah needed a hat for a family trip to wintry Colorado, I took my inspiration from the popular “hats with flaps” to design this simple hat. It is easily customizable, with use of variegated yarn, stripes, contrasting trim, or whatever speaks to you.

Instructions are for a medium sized hat, and include information about adjusting the pattern for any size.

Gauge: 4 1/2 stitches per inch in stockinette

Materials needed:
approximately 50 gm of worsted weight yarn
small amounts of contrasting yarn, if desired
16” circular needle and 1 set of double-pointed needles in size needed for gauge (I used US size 7.)
small crochet hook
