Where would we be as knitters without sheep? These essential and delightful animals are the basis for the history of our craft, and even with all the alternative fibres on the market there’s nothing quite like a warm woolly hat on a crisp day. This hat is an ode to the creatures that give their fleece for our practical and our playful use.

Schapen1 is a whimsical hat that will give your technical repertoire a work out. Short rows shape the split brim, and the body of the hat is worked flat using the intarsia technique to knit in the sheep bodies and heads. The hat is then joined in the round to complete the plain knit crown shaping. Duplicate stitch is used to pick out details such as legs and fences, and the back of the hat is seamed between the split brim and the crown. Schapen is a great showcase of your skills as well as being fun and easy to wear!
