Sumptuously textured and generously sized, Seal Cove is both soothing to knit and soothing to wear! The shawl grows from an easy stockinette beginning in an asymmetrical triangle shape, opening out to a subtle shifting rib pattern, with delicate columns of knit stitches radiating out across a reverse stockinette backdrop. Seal Cove’s practical, versatile shape works just as well worn draped to the front like a triangular scarf as it does draped around your shoulders for warmth. Its simple, subtle stitch patterning makes a beautiful showcase for a standout yarn, preferably one with a little “bling,” like the wonderful Acadia from The Fibre Company. Acadia’s hefty dose of silk and alpaca fibers absorb the dye differently than the wool, giving the yarn its characteristic sheen, while the two-ply structure allows for a beautifully open, drapey fabric perfect for a luxurious neck accessory. Go subtle and sophisticated in a semi-solid or tonal colorway, aim wilder in a speckled or variegated shade, or even make a two-toned version, using one colorway for the stockinette section and another for the ribs.

Size
One size - 67” / 170 cm wingspan, 31” / 79 cm depth.

Yarn
The Fibre Co. Acadia (60% Merino, 20% silk, 20% baby alpaca, 145 yards / 133 meters per 50 grams), 5 skeins, or 700 yards / 640 meters heavy sport to light worsted weight wool or wool-blend yarn. Note on substitution: you’re looking for a yarn with some drape and, preferably, some sheen, so look for a wool that’s blended with a fiber with some natural luster and drape, like silk, alpaca, or cashmere. I’m particularly fond of silk blends, because the silk fibers take dye differently than wool, giving the yarn a lot of dimension and shine.
