These socks were inspired by a gorgeous skein of yarn I purchased a little while ago from Mr and Mrs Rabbit yarns. It made me think of peaches and cream and I wanted to design a sock pattern featuring these sweet summer fruits. As I went through the design process, it occurred to me that by changing yarn colour these socks could represent the fruits of other seasons and so the Seasonal Fruits sock pattern was born.

I’m always looking for ways to make knitting easier and more accessible to all levels of knitter. Whilst the stitch pattern on these socks may initially look complicated, the use of slip stitches and simple lace techniques makes them a much simpler knit than you may think…

When I put together my first sock pattern, I wrote that “In designing this, my first sock pattern, my aim has been to make my instructions as clear as possible to give you the skills and the confidence to create luxurious socks that you can really be proud of”. That still holds true for this, my second pattern. I believe knitting should be a joy and a pleasure and by providing clear, easy to follow instructions, I hope that you can relax into your projects and create beautiful socks you can be proud of.

Once again, instructions are given for both a toe up and a cuff down construction so that you can try out new techniques and decide which works best for you.

An area of fear for many new sock knitters is the dreaded heel. I have included in this pattern what I have found to be the simplest heel construction which I feel also gives the best fit. Instructions for a high instep adjustment are also given which I often use to achieve the best fit for my own socks.

I have written the pattern out in sections so that you can experiment, as your confidence grows, with inserting alternative heel and toe methods should you wish to do so.

I have designed the pattern to be knitted using a contrast colour for the heels, toes and cuffs and refer to this throughout the pattern. It is however perfectly possible to knit the socks in a single colour or using as many different yarns as you wish. The pattern is written for magic loop but you can adapt the pattern for use with DPNs and short circular needles.

For my sample socks I used 53g of my main colour (Paintbox Garden by Mr and Mrs Rabbit yarns) and 16g of my contrast colour (a mini skein by Wild Rose yarns).

I hope you enjoy knitting this pattern as much as I enjoyed designing it!
