When my daughters were toddlers, my sister (“Auntie Barbara”) made them those adorable Pumpkin Hats to wear. You’ve seen them, they’re everywhere, and each one cuter than the last. At that time I was not much of a knitter, more of a fumbler, so could only look in awe at those two little pumpkin hats on my two little pumpkin heads. Besides which, I was working full-time and had zero free-time for knitting vegetables to put on my children’s heads.

Enough excuses! I am now happily retired, with lots of time to knit and natter, but in the meanwhile my 2 little pumpkin heads have grown up! They will no longer stand still while I plop Pumpkin Hats on their heads to make them look cute. (“Mom, I am NOT wearing a vegetable on my HEAD!”) However…. Being the sneaky Mom that I am, I created this incognito Pumpkin Hat to make them look cute without them suspecting! I tell them it’s a lace beret (see, there is a lace pattern on the front, I’m not lying!).

So if you long for the days when your daughter was toddling around, looking up to you as the most beautiful, wise, and beloved person in her tiny world (kind of like Snow White or Cinderella), make her one of these lovely “lace berets”. And if she asks what that pointy thing on the top is, tell her it’s a signal booster for her iPhone…
