It’s MKAL season! The MKAL is my annual Mystery Shawl Knit Along and this year’s shawl is called is called Shawlography. We will cast on the Shawlography mystery shawl on October 8 and knit together throughout the month of October as I release a section of the pattern each week until the final design is revealed. The Mystery Shawl is a complete surprise, so when you sign up by purchasing the pattern, you just know what types of yarn and needles you need along with color recommendations. Then, I will entertain you with a beautiful show-stopping shawl as we start knitting in October.

Clue 2 - Friday, October 15
Clue 3 - Friday, October 22
Clue 4 - Friday, October 29

When you purchase this pattern, you will receive an introductory PDF containing all the yarn information and details for the MKAL. You will receive the first instructions for the pattern Friday, October 8. Then, you will receive a section of the mystery shawl pattern each week until the final design is revealed on October 29.

KITS
Collect a kit at Stephen & Penelope here!
We will ship kits in mid-September in plenty of time to arrive before the cast on party on October 8.

Keep an eye out for updates this month on Instagram and in the MKALRavelry group. If kits sell out, we will do our best to supply some other color palette options for you.

YARN
5 colors of fingering weight yarn (100g of each color)

It’s important to have contrast amongst your colors in order to see the details and crisp lines in the fabric. Solid, semi-solid, and lightly speckled fingering weight yarns are all great options for this year’s shawl. Try to avoid using very busy variegated and highly speckled yarns for all of the colors. It’s okay to have some painterly splashes for some of your colors, but I recommend crisp clean contrast for this year’s shawl.

You can use any yarn to participate! Dive into your stash and use what you have or collect a kit from Stephen & Penelope are find colors at your LYS. This year’s shawl works really well with lots of different fingering weight yarn types. Try a new yarn for the MKAL!
