Have you ever seen the beautiful rock formations that are caused by the shifting and breaking of the tectonic plates? Layers on layers of rock jetting out from the earth. Pushing up, diagonally, toward the sky. That is where this modified granny square pattern got its name!

Stitches to know:
chain (ch)
double crochet (dc)

The great thing about crochet is you can personalize it however you like! Use whatever yarn you like with whichever size hook you prefer to use with that yarn. If you are unsure of what size hook to use, follow the suggested size that can be found on the yarn label.
This pattern can be made as large or as small as you please! Just stop and fasten off after completing the closing corner when you’ve reached your desired size.

There is no wrong side to this pattern! You will be turning after each round which means the front and back will be identical.
In this pattern you will see that I use a ch 1 in Sequences A and B. I make this a loose/long chain. You could choose to ch 2 instead. Personally, ch 2 is too long and my piece starts to ripple. That’s why I do a long ch 1. It will be trial and error as to which you will prefer to use.

The ch 1 in the closing corner is a true ch 1.

In round 1 the magic circle can be replaced with a ch 3, slip stitch in farthest chain from hook to form your starting loop.

You are free to sell items made using my pattern. All I ask is that you reference the pattern name and Jaime Ramsey Designs.

Your purchase of my patterns helps me to make memories with my kids. The profits from my pattern sales pays for my children’s extra curricular activates, sports pictures, trips to the zoo, etc. I can not thank you enough for supporting me and my family in this way!

I hope you enjoy this pattern! Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions, comments, and concerns!
