This pattern is designed to work with any single skein of handspun yarn. It works best with yarns that have a fun or funky texture to them, such as add-ins, coils or corespun yarns. If you don’t have an awesome drawer full of handspun like I do, look for a commercial yarn that has a unique or interesting texture (or get thee to Etsy and buy yourself some handspun!).

The samples for this pattern used two different skeins of handspun yarn:

  • Sample A (black) used approx. 112 yards of Bohoknitterchic Spins Foreign Objects (a single that had actual chains spun into it). That yarn measured 5-6 wpi for a super bulky gauge.
  • Sample B (blue/purple/pink) used a sport weight yarn held double for an aran weight that was approx. 120 yards. That yarn, spun by Sara Nelson, was a thread-ply with coils and plenty of sparkle.

There is no gauge for this pattern, because you’ll use your own choice of yarn and needles to determine your gauge and stitch counts. As such, it’s a great way to use seriously ANY full-sized (100g or 4oz) skein of handspun you’ve been hoarding!
