This hat is constructed sideways with moss stitch and a cable edge, and the shaping is formed by knitting short rows around the circumference. The hat has a lot of stretch, which offers flexibility as a gift and longer wear for children.

The pattern provides written instructions as well as charts for toddler, child and adult sizes.

If you’d prefer, the hat can be knit by holding two strands of worsted weight yarn together but be sure to double-check the gauge.

This is the March 21 pattern from the Stitch ‘n Bitch calendar. Errata from the calendar: For rows 2, 4 & 6, it should read “k1, p1” inside the brackets, as it does for row 8. The chart is likewise incorrect.
