Small Moses Basket and Swaddling Blanket Pattern

Crochet Pattern in US Crochet Terms.

This is a crochet pattern to make 2 items: a Small Moses Basket to hold a doll or soft toy measuring between 5 inches and 7 inches (when using double strand DK yarn); and a Swaddling Blanket to wrap around the doll when in the basket.

Written pattern is fully explained, with additional notes.

There is also pictorial guidance to show you how to measure a basket for placing side handles; for how to neaten the edge of a crochet hood; and to show you how to make an Invisible (Needle) Join when using slip stitches.

This pattern is suitable for confident beginners or intermediate crocheters.

There are two versions of the pattern and you will be able to download them both as required:

1: A full written pattern with pictorial instructions alongside the pattern.
2: A full written text only pattern which is print friendly.

My Moses Baskets have been made in double strand DK (double knit) yarn, using a 5 mm hook.

They measure approximately 7.5 inches (19 cms) in length by 4.25 inches (10.5 cms) width, measured across and unstretched.

My swaddling blankets have been made in single strand DK yarn using a 4.5mm hook.

They measure approximately 17.5 inches (44.5 cms) in width and 6 inches (15.25 cms) in length (note that these are wraparound so they are much wider than they are long).

But any yarn and matching hook size will suit this pattern. It will just give you a different-size Moses Basket and Blanket :)

Materials required:
Yarn of your choice in 3 different colours (or 2 colours if you use the same yarn for the main colour of the blanket and to make the moses basket.
Crochet hook in a size to suit yarn used.
Darning needle for working in yarn ends and making Invisible Joins.
Scissors.
Doll or soft toy to put inside the basket :)

I have made several of these small Moses Baskets and Swaddling Blankets and the pattern has been tested and re-tested.
I hope I have provided enough help for you, but if you do have problems understanding the instructions, please let me know and I will try all I can to help.
