The Southern Hemisphere Doily - an obsessively accurate representation of an obscure cartographic projection in crochet.

This doily uses an orthographic map projection to create a picture of the earth from space, as if it were viewed from directly above the south pole. It uses a variation on filet crochet so that the map can be worked in a single color. The chart also includes directions for working the map in multiple colors for additional contrast.

The total yardage is about 350 yards. I have chosen not to estimate yardage for particular colors in the multicolored version because I have deliberately designed the pattern so people can make their own color choices. However, it is safe to say that far more yardage is used in the landmasses than is used in the ocean!

Equally stunning in colors or monotone, this doily is sure to catch people’s attention!
