Ask your little girl what her favorite piece of clothing is. More likely than not her answer will be that it is a dress or a skirt, and she may also add the word ‘fancy’ to her description.

To celebrate our ‘sugar and spice’ girls, Spring Foliage is the first design in my lacy skirts series. It is constructed from the top down, and finished with a foliage lace hemline.

Material:
The pattern is suitable for fingering, sport or DK weight merino yarn. By choosing a fingering weight, your skirt will be light and airy. By choosing a DK weight yarn, this skirt will be perfect for colder months.
Sample shown in Madelinetosh Tosh Sport, in Grashopper colorway.

300 (350, 400, 460, 520){580, 640, 720, 780) yds

Sizes and Yardage:
Note, sizing is based on child’s waist and hip measurement.

22-28 sts on US 6 / 4 mm needles

Skill level:
The pattern is detailed enough to be adventurous beginner friendly, and at the some time interesting enough to capture the attention of a more advanced knitter as well. If you admired lace before, but never tried it, now is the time to get your feet wet.

Notions:

  • 3/4” elastic, stitch marker, darning needle
  • Optional for decorative tie: 10-14 glass beads size 2/0 “E” (6 mm diameter), small crochet hook, sewing needle or sewing machine, sewing thread matching the yarn color
