This shape of slippers is a classic style that has been around for generations. I cannot claim to have invented the concept. It is not known who did. The specifics of the numbers, illustrations, techniques and instructions in this pattern are my own.

The instructions in this pattern give the numbers and basics of the style. Full descriptions of the techniques involved are given in the accompanying video series on my YouTube channel. The channel is “the answer lady knits”. The name of the playlist is “Square Slippers”

YARN, GAUGE & LOOM
Use a yarn on the high end of #5 bulky or low end of #6super bulky and adjust the loom to get a gauge of 2.5 stitches/3.5rows/inch. This is the same as 10 stitches/14 rows per 4”/10cm. See later in the pattern for adjustments to a specific foot and gauge size is you are unable to match the gauge. Any board that can match the gauge and has enough pegs may be used. Expect the slippers to take from 160-310 yards of yarn from the smallest to largest size.

SUBSTITUTE SIZES AND GAUGES
There are complete instructions for adjusting the pattern to different sizes and gauges.

VIDEO SUPPORT
There are 3 videos to help you with this pattern. One is all about double board stockinette. One is about knitting the slippers, including how to adjust the board to gauge. A final video is about making non-slip soles for safety.
