For knitters who are new to socks, these are incredibly easy to make and using sport weight yarn, they are worked up with astounding speed!

The name refers to the types of ocean waves generated by weather activity from great distances away and was chosen based on my home in Tofino where the locals pay a LOT of attention to wave activity.

The name is based on its resemblance to two key construction techniques used in these socks - the Strong Heel and the Swirl Toe.

Developed by Gerdine Crawford-Strong and first published in 2003, the Strong Heel is a remarkably easy (and wonderfully aesthetic) heel flap that requires NO picking up stitches but still provides a wonderful fit. I also adapted Lara Neel’s Swirl Toe which eliminates the need for grafting and adds a cute, subtle design element.
