This lovely cushion is made in a similar way to an Afghan, where you start at a point, and create a square by increasing, then decreasing. It’s a fun method, that ensures that a square is what you end up with!

Using garter stitch, and working in berry coloured stripes, this cushion cover makes a stylish addition to your home. We used Drops Alaska, which is a dense 100% wool aran weight yarn, available in some wonderful shades. It’s not a washable yarn, but because of the nature of wool, it should only require a very rare handwash.

Because of the technique used to make this cushion cover, it’s a whole lot more interesting than knitting a standard striped square garter stitch square, which means it grows pretty quickly!

We used a 38 x 38 cm cushion pads, and 4.5 mm knitting needles. You will also need 8 buttons for fastening the back.
