This mitten has an unusual gusset. The thumb stitches are cast on at the beginning and the mitten shaping takes place on the palm of the hand. The shaping line follows the life-line on your hand. The stripes add a fun dimension.

If you dislike knitting thumbs this pattern gives you a terrific alternative to the standard thumb construction (which is included in the pattern). Work your thumb as an I-Cord. Yes, it’s simple and you won’t believe how fast it is. Mittens are fun to knit when the thumb knitting is this easy.
