On chilly days when I don’t feel like ironing, there is nothing better than a handknit sweater- vest. It helps what would otherwise be an ordinary pairing of tee shirt and jeans become a forcefield against brutal weather and a fashion statement in your favorite color. For this, I chose the natural Irish Aran wool that kept its sheep warm until shearing time.

Materials:
Smudge Wools Irish Aran weight yarn or similar yarn to obtain gauge
963yd / 880m / 566g
2 small buttons, 6 large buttons

Tools:
5.5mm (US 9) circular needles (though knit flat), or size needed to obtain gauge.
3 stitch holders or spare thread to hold them Stitch markers
Scissors and needle to weave in ends.

Pattern Gauge:
The sample was knit at 14sts x 29rows / 4in x 4in garter stitch, blocked.

Finished Size:
Adult
22in from side-to-side,
24in from hem to base of cowl, 23in cowl circumference.
