The Summit Bound hat was named after my two year old son Summit and originally inspired by a woven rug that I always knew needed to find its way into my wardrobe. It also symbolizes the times I found myself summit bound over the summer climbing to different peaks in the mountain ranges of Wyoming where I live.

This hat is designed in my hand dyed yarn, Knotty Pine Fiber Co. on our Mountain Range Dk base. It is locally grown, milled and spun in Buffalo Wyoming and is then sent to me to be hand dyed in Douglas Wyoming. This base is 100% Rambouillet non-superwash merino wool, it is a 2 ply construction that is semi-worsted/semi woolen spun.

The Summit Bound hat is knit using two colors in stranded colorwork. I’ve paired our Sandy Beach colorway with one of the following colors for each hat; Deep Woods, Mushaboom, Whiskey River and Straight from the Hive. The largest size uses just over 50g of each color so there will be plenty left over to knit an additional smaller size as well. This pattern has been professionally tech edited and test knit for an enjoyable knitting experience.

I have designed this hat to fit snuggly with two inches of negative ease. Each size is increased by adding an extra repeat to the circumference of the hat so if you prefer less negative ease or want positive ease in your hat you can add another repeat or two to get the desired fit. This will require more yarn but there is more than enough in each skein to account for this. There are five sizes from baby to adult included in the pattern.
