Super Simple Civil War Women's Mitts
A perfect ladies’ fingerless glove pattern for knitters of all levels to make while in camp, these mitts work up quickly and easily with no shaping required. Features rolled cuffs which will keep fingers free to go about their business. Even if you have never put in a thumb gusset before, you’ll be amazed at how simple it is to add this skill to your repertoire. By using a smaller size needle, the wool fabric created is a nice dense texture that is long-wearing. I have a very loose gauge, so the smaller size needles are perfect for me; feel free to move up a size or two if you are a tight knitter. Just about any color will work for Civil War era, especially natural greys or browns, ivory, reds, greens, and blues. I’ve used some onion skin dyed wool yarn in a nice natural texture. Don’t be afraid to incorporate stripes of contrasting colors, which was popular during the Victorian era. Perfect for Victorian impressions, or work up a pair for modern use.
