This blanket is large enough to be used in a baby’s crib, or as a lap afghan for an adult. It can easily be made wider by adding stitches, in multiples of 6, or longer by knitting more repeats of the 34-row lace and garter stitch stripe pattern. Cast on fewer stitches and knit fewer stripes for a smaller blanket.

It is a good pattern for knitters new to lace knitting because there are only 2 pattern rows to memorize, and the knitting is easy to “read” on the needles once a pattern repeat has been completed. Wrong side rows are purled across the lace section. The borders are knit in garter stitch, as are the stripes between the lace sections.

Skills Needed:

  • cast on and bind off
  • knit and purl
  • YO (yarn over)
  • sk2p (slip 1 stitch, knit next 2 stitches together, pass the slipped stitch over)
