This half-circle Tunisian Crochet shawl is inspired by the natural wonder of the deep blue sea. Colourfully speckled and variegated hand-dyed yarns represent the flowing waters, surging tides and crashing waves.

The body of the shawl is worked in the Tunisian Simple Stitch, in 3 different colours of Double Knitting yarn, finished with a textured Tunisian Purl Stitch border in a 4th colour. A crocheted Crab Stitch edging neatens the longest side of the shawl.

The gradual, sweeping circular shape of the Shawl is created by 4 lines of Mitered increases that are worked every 4 rows. Yarn-overs provide the first increases in the foundation row, then the Tunisian Full Stitch is used to work the increases across the rest of the Shawl.

YARN
When choosing which yarn to use, any colourful yarn will work great, as the Tunisian Simple and Purl Stitches really help to show off any colour changes. Choose a variety of blue hues to represent the vast waters of the deep blue sea, or any other 4 complementary colours for a Shawl of another inspiration.

I’ve used:
Jo.Knit.Sew Merino/Nylon DK in shade Lost at Sea for A
Jo.Knit.Sew Merino/Silk DK in shade the Pirate for B
Jo.Knit.Sew Merino/Nylon DK in shade Twitchy Witchy for C
