The Great River Anduin takes the Fellowship past Rohan and the Brown Lands to the Falls of Rauros, guarded by the huge statues of Isildur and Anarion. I wanted these socks to have a carved look to them inspired by the stone work from the ancient Kings of Gondor, but also have a flowing, liquid feel. I think they also look a bit weedy, which is a nice reminder of the marshy ground the Fellowship slog through along the portage way near Sarn Gebir.

Skill Level: Intermediate. There are no cables in this sock, but the charts are a bit complex, and include increases and decreases to create the pattern.
Materials: Approximately 320-400 yds / 300-370m of sock yarn. The socks pictured, feature Wollmeise Twin in the color “Amazonas”
Tools: Tape Measure, Scissors, Tapestry Needle, 2 Stitch markers
Needles: US1/2.25mm sock needles (either DPN or Magic Loop is fine)
Gauge: 8 stitches and 12 rounds per 1 inch or 2.5cm in stockinette
Sizing: Small (Medium, Large, Extra-large) socks have a circumference of 7.5(8,9,9.5) inches or 19(20,22.5,24) cm. Leg height, ankle depth, and foot length are all adjustable to preference and fit.

Acknowledgements
This sock uses a Sweet Tomato Heel, and I am so indebted to Cat Bordhi for this excellent technique. I have linked Ms. Bordhi’s outstanding video as an additional help when working this heel, and I recommend not only watching this, but also working her patterns.

As always, thanks to my awesome group of testers for their help in fine tuning the pattern. Any mistakes that remain are my own.
